VISSIM is a microscopic multi-modal traffic flow simulation software. It is developed by PTV Planung Transport Verkehr AG in Karlsruhe, Germany. The name is derived from “Verkehr In Städten - SIMulationsmodell” (German for “Traffic in cities - simulation model”).
