General Presentation

The Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems, Fraunhofer FOKUS, is a Berlin-based research facility devoted to studying and developing communication and information technologies. It specialises in multi-domain networks and interoperable, user-centred solutions. Fraunhofer FOKUS is an important IT research partner for the telecommunications sector, the automobile industry, media services, and public administrations.

Expertise

The FOKUS competence centre “Automotive services and communication technologies” strives to develop innovative communication solutions, which enable a targeting and cross-system exchange of data amongst vehicles and between vehicles and traffic infrastructure. This includes the simulation of communication-based traffic management applications, the integration of infotainment- and micro-navigation services together with the evaluation in the institute’s own research vehicles. Furthermore, experts of the competence centre are working on a secure and reliable approach to data exchange in vehicle networks.

Relevant experience to FOTs

Fraunhofer FOKUS is involved in the FOT-related EC projects PRE-DRIVE C2X and simTD.
