The EC funded FOT-Net support action answers the needs to gather National, European and international FOT organisers in one strategic networking platform.

The primary aim of this network is to spread and feed-in the common FESTA methodology which has been developed for Field Operational Tests. The FESTA project has developed a comprehensive manual which described the various steps to be taken when organising a Field Operational Test. It walks the reader through the whole process of planning, preparing, executing, analysing and reporting a Field Operational Test, and it gives information about aspects that are especially relevant for a study of this magnitude (administrative, logistics, etc.)

The FOT networking platform aims not only to spread this methodology, but also to further explore the FESTA recommendations, and debate about issues which will need further attention.

In addition FOT-Net Forum activities provide to the stakeholders the opportunity to address common identified priorities or problems related to the execution of the FOTs and find a solution to keep the integrity of the European FOT methodology.

The FOT-Net project has now ended and been followed up by the FOT-Net Data project that builds further on the existing communication platform www.fot-net.eu.

Geographical Coverage

International, FOT-Net aims at gathering information from FOT Stakeholders across the globe. This Wiki is a catalogue of FOTs from across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific.

Objectives

OBJ-1 Maintain activities of the European network of National, European and Global FOT stakeholders and experts where public and private sectors are represented.

OBJ-2 Facilitate international cooperation on FOT together with running European FOTs and foster on the different EC collaboration agreements with RITA and METI.

OBJ-3 Revise and adapt, in a short period of time (6 months), the FESTA methodology for FOTs on ADAS, Nomadic devices, Cooperative systems, and for Naturalistic Driving Studies, based on the experience gained across Europe and beyond.

OBJ-4 Create and coordinate FOT working groups on legal and ethical issues, data analysis, incident definition, impact assessment, data sharing, stakeholder analysis, and deployment issues.

OBJ-5 Create a knowledge transfer program for a common FOT methodology in national, European and international FOT activities (using the revised FESTA handbook).

OBJ-6 Create and maintain an inventory of tools for FOTs with links to their providers and users, for data acquisition systems, database structure, data management and analysis.

OBJ-7 Make an evaluation of the contributions of FOTs to policy goals or market deployment (including lessons to be learned in the future).

OBJ-8 Continue the Dissemination and awareness support to the current FOT activities especially in terms of inter-activities support and outreach.

OBJ-9 Encourage creation of specific content by FOT-Net community to be disseminated through FOT-Net’s dissemination channels. (WP2-

Background

Field Operational Tests are a proven tools to assess the efficiency, quality, robustness and acceptance of ICT solutions used for smarter, safer, cleaner and more comfortable transport solutions. The EC DG INFSO is supporting the realisation of large-scale FOTs through FP7 activities. Many FOTs are running at National, European and international level. ICT solutions addressed in FOTs can be quite different but methodology and tools are similar. FOT-Net addresses the need for a networking platform to let FOT experts benefit from each other’s experiences as well as to give a European dimension to local activities.

Project's Outcomes

-Closed gaps and reduced overlaps between national and European FOT activities

-Increased cohesion between European and National FOT activities

-Increased used of FOT results by deployment stakeholders

-Use of common methodology standards across FOTs through common test sites

-Revised FESTA according to the experience in current FOTs and trained experts

-Consolidated knowledge about FOT tools to facilitate new FOT initiatives
