Definition

a specific event in which a system is expected to behave according to a specified function

According to COMeSafety, a use-case “defines a subset of functionality of a system. It is primarily used to define the behaviour of a system without specifying its internal structure” [COMeSafety Report, Sec. 3.4.1]. In other words, a use-case in Car-to-X (C2X) system may be considered as an application or service that brings specific benefits to users and stakeholders, e.g., drivers or traffic management center, in a specific road traffic scenario.

Based on use-case descriptions, system engineers and architects are able to analyze use-cases for inherent requirements with respect to a technical materialization and derive a system specification in technical terms.
