"SAFESPOT West Europe Test Site" is not a large scale testing programme and cannot be considered as a FOT. But results of the programme are relevant to the FOT-net objectives and can provide valuable inputs to the FOT-net conclusions. SAFESPOT partners’ expertise justifies integrating them among the community of FOT-net stakeholders.

The aim of SAFESPOT is to develop a “Safety Margin Assistant” that detects potentially dangerous situation and extends driver’s awareness of surrounding environment. The objective of SAFESPOT test sites is to test some applications based on V2V and V2I communications, in the SAFESPOT West Europe Test Site are planned to be tested some applications among: speed limitation, road departure prevention, intersection safety, hazard and incident warning, safety margin for assistance and emergency vehicles.

Functionalities to be tested: a number of V2V and V2I applications in highway, urban and rural scenarios. Installed infrastructure:

  • Traffic sensors, variable message signs
  • Infrastructures communication nodes
  • Traffic management center

Type of vehicles used:

  • Mainly cars
  • Truck
